The chicken from Pine Island Country Store comes from Rise & Shine Farms, here on our property. Owner Ryan Fontaine started Rise & Shine Farms in 2018. The farm sits on a 75-acre property just outside of Hempstead in the Pine Island community. Rise & Shine Farms is a small-scale farm that produces organic, free-range & pasture-raised chicken and goose eggs. They also offer organically fed, free-range pastured chickens and turkeys. 

Our chickens are never given growth hormones or antibiotics. When our birds are processed, the meat is not bleached (as is most common with processed chicken), so you will notice a slight pink color, which is normal on fresh chicken! Our eggs are brought to you by the well-loved laying hens here on our farm. We believe that simple, delicious food starts with honest agriculture, and that’s why our birds are free to roam happily.
 
In addition to raising chickens, Rise & Shine Farms began supporting an often overlooked but critical piece of our agricultural ecosystem, housing bees. The bees provide us and our guests with the richest, sweetest honey South Texas has to offer! Fresh herbs and vegetables have recently been added to the array of offerings from this growing farm to support our shop’s mission of bringing you the freshest homecooked meals in Waller County!
